Geography: Amphi-Beringian: RFE ALA.
Notes: Elven and Murray: Variety ossoraicus is a specialist of geothermal sites, known from a few sites on the Chukchi Peninsula (East Chukotka) and the Seward Peninsula (western Alaska). The Alaskan specimens (ALA; Serpentine and Pilgrim Hot Springs) are more similar in diagnostic floral characters to Juncus bufonius than to J. ranarius. Variety ossoraicus may be acceptable as an ecotypical variety but perhaps not of J. ranarius.
