271504 Dactylorhiza majalis (Rchb.) P.F. Hunt & Summerh

GBIF

Geography: European.

Notes: Dactylorhiza majalis is an allopolyploid complex wherein D. incarnata constitutes one of the basic tetraploid genomes, D. fuchsii possibly the other (Hedrén 1996a; Pridgeon et al. 1997; Hedrén et al. 2001). The complex is very diverse and more than 60 names have been coined within it (see the International Plant Name Index, IPNI). Some molecular differences have been found among members of the complex but it is debatable whether several species can be recognized. Pedersen (in prep. Flora Nordica, in comments) prefers to treat them as subspecies of D. majalis. We follow that approach.
