861501 Tripleurospermum maritimum (L.) W.D.J. Koch
- W.D.J. Koch, Syn. Fl. Germ. Helv., ed. 2: 1026 (1845). - Matricaria maritima L., Sp. Pl.: 891 (1753). Lectotype (LINN): Europe. Herb. Linn. 1013.2 (Sell in Jarvis and Turland 1998: 364).
Geography: Circumboreal-polar.
Notes: Three taxa are currently accepted within Tripleurospermum maritimum, by western European authors as races (subspecies), by Tzvelev (1987e, 2000a) and Korobkov (PAF proposal, comments) as species. As shown by Hämet-Ahti (1967), they are parapatric and morphologically overlapping. Intermediates are at least partially fertile and are frequent, locally dominating, in the meeting zones in the Nordic area. We follow Hämet-Ahti and accept rank as subspecies. The circumpolar arctic subsp. phaeocephalum is geographically better separated than the two others. This could be an argument for acceptance of a species, probably with priority for the name T. hookeri Sch.Bip. 1853, but still with abundant intermediates towards the two other taxa in northern Europe.
