- Mentha canadensis taxon villosa Benth., Labiat. Gen. Sp.: 181 (1833). Described from North America. - Mentha arvensis var. villosa (Benth.) Stewart, Rhodora 46: 333 (1944).

The majority of reports for M. canadensis are of 2n = 54 (9x) or 96 (16x).
Geography: Asian (NE) - amphi-Beringian - North American: ALA CAN.
Notes: Hultén (1968a) and Porsild and Cody (1980) included Mentha arvensis var. villosa for the North American areas as a major geographical race. Scoggan (1979) synonymized this name with Linnaeus' M. canadensis. Sokolova (1980) reported M. sachalinensis from the Russian Far East. This name was synonymized with M. canadensis by Probatova (1995) and Sekretareva (1999).
Elven and Murray: The plant present in geothermal sites in western Alaska has been confirmed as M. canadensis on the features mentioned above.
