18 (2x). - Europe (N). - Several reports, numerous counts.
Not included: For reports of tetraploid counts by Löve and Löve (1947) see notes above. Tetraploid cells found by Gjelsås (1970) were due to endopolyploidy in root tips of otherwise diploid plants and are omitted.
Geography: European Atlantic (N): ICE NOR RUS.
Notes: Subspecies islandica reaches the Arctic as more or less stable populations in Iceland, Norway, and the Murman area in European Russia. The record for the region Svalbard-Franz Joseph Land is due to a single, non-flowering plant found in the Isfjorden area on Spitsbergen in 1939. The occurrence was probably a very casual (one summer) result of sea current dispersal.
