2n= (1) 16 (2x). - Europe (N), Siberia (N, S). - Several reports.
(2) 32 (4x). - Siberia (Tuva). - Krogulevich and Rostovtseva (1984, three counts), see below.
Yurtsev: Krogulevich and Rostovtseva (1984) included reports of diploids from three counts for subsp. frigidus, four for intermediates (the Putorana area), and eight for subsp. parviflorus. The vouchers of the tetraploid counts from the Tuva Mountains in the southeastern Altai should be confirmed [as subsp. frigidus] before two ploidy levels are accepted [in this subspecies].

Geography: European - Asian (NW-C): NOR RUS SIB.

Notes: Chater (1968) accepted the northern European Russian plant named subsp. grigorjewii as a local subspecies on the Kanin Peninsula. It is insufficiently characterized and we include in subsp. frigida. This was the conclusion also of Yurtsev (PAF proposal).
