610101 Alnus viridis (Chaix) DC.
- DC. in Lam. & DC., Fl. Franç., éd. 3, 3: 304 (1805). - Betula viridis Chaix, Pl. Vapinc.: 70 (1785). Described from central Europe. - Alnaster viridis (Chaix) Spach, Ann. Sci. Nat. Bot., sér. 2, 15: 201 (1841). - Duschekia viridis (Chaix) Opiz, Seznam: 38 (1852).
Geography: European (C) & European (NE) - Asian (N/C) - amphi-Beringian - North American.
Notes: Furlow (1997) accepted the northern races as subspecies of Alnus viridis. These are major, overlapping, and partly intergrading taxa (e.g., Hultén 1944). Yurtsev rather preferred specific treatment, and especially he wanted to consider the geographically isolated central European A. viridis s. str. apart from the others. if his suggestion is followed up, it would mean that the priority species name for the arctic plants would be A. crispa. However, we follow Furlow's treatment as the most recent evaluation of the group.
