500111 Micranthes nelsoniana (D. Don) Small

Geography: Asian (N/C) - amphi-Pacific/Beringian.

Notes: Hultén and Fries (1986) mapped this species to reach the Arctic with three nearly allopatric races: the amphi-Beringian subsp. nelsoniana, the northern and central Asian subsp. aestivalis with an eastern boundary more or less along the Kolyma River, and the coastal amphi-Pacific subsp. insularis. Zhmylev stated subsp. nelsoniana and subsp. aestivalis to be largely sympatric in Siberia and with much transitions (and therefore as subspecies) but with subsp. aestivalis more southern than subsp. nelsoniana. We follow that view. The differential characters do not seem to be adaptive. Treatment as subspecies seems appropriate.
