Notes: Armeria maritima reaches the Arctic in southern Greenland (Hultén and Fries 1986) and the Borderline Arctic in Måsøy in Norway. Several other races have been described from non-arctic parts of Europe, e.g., subsp. elongata (Hoffm.) Bonnier that reaches north to southern Fennoscandia.
Löve and Löve (1961b, 1976a) recognized some northwestern European plants, e.g., the Icelandic ones, as subsp. planifolia with the following insufficient justification: "A plant with a distribution area similar to that of Geum rivale ssp. islandicum" another taxon currently not recognized. Armeria maritima is polymorphic but we do not accept more than one race (subsp. maritima) from the Arctic.
