Geography: Nearly circumpolar-alpine.
Notes: The two subspecies, one arctic circumpolar and one Cordilleran, are rather different (Soreng et al. 2003; Soreng 2007). Transitional forms have not been reported. Specific rank (as Poa abbreviata and P. pattersonii) is the alternative.
