Geography: Circumpolar-alpine.
Notes: We follow Kirschner et al. (2002c) and accept two subspecies of Juncus arcticus: a widely amphi-Atlantic subsp. arcticus and a widely amphi-Beringian subsp. alaskanus. There may be transitions between subsp. arcticus and subsp. alaskanus in Canada and northeastern Asia.
