911301 Ligusticum scothicum L.
- L., Sp. Pl.: 250 (1753) "scothieum". Described from the seashores of England and Sweden. Lectotype (BM): Herb. Clifford: 97, Ligusticum 3 (Reduron and Jarvis in Jarvis et al. 1993: 61).
Geography: Amphi-Atlantic & amphi-Pacific/Beringian.
Notes: The species name is usually spelt as 'scoticum' but Linnaeus' spelling is 'scothicum' and that is admissible.
The morphological differences between the amphi-Atlantic subsp. scothicum and the amphi-Pacific subsp. hultenii are small (see Fernald 1930). Tikhomirov (PAF proposal) did not accept races. The geographical gaps between their ranges, however, are considerable, 50 longitude in North America and 80 longitude in Eurasia. We accept two major races.
