910301 Anthriscus sylvestris (L.) Hoffm.

GBIF

Geography: European - Asian (N/C).

Notes: In Flora Europaea, Cannon (1968a) accepted Anthriscus nemorosa (M. Bieb.) Spreng. - with A. aemula as a synonym - as a species apart from A. sylvestris and with the argument: "A group of closely related taxa that have sometimes ... been treated as subspecies. Evidence of sympatric occurrence without obvious hybridization suggests that specific status is more appropriate". It was reported distributed in Italy, the Balkan Peninsula, and Russia (including the northern parts). Tikhomirov (1977, 1980) considered A. sylvestris subsp. aemula different from A. nemorosa and Tikhomirov (PAF proposal) synonymized subsp. aemula with A. sylvestis s. str. Hultén and Fries (1986) mapped A. sylvestris with two subspecies, subsp. sylvestris in almost all of Europe and subsp. aemula eastwards from northeastern Russia, i.e., excluding the type area of A. nemorosa. Pimenov (1996) did not accept races in the Siberian material. We enter two subspecies but follow Tikhomirov in not synonymizing subsp. aemula with A. nemorosa.
