Described from Clearwater River in northern Alberta (Canada). - Valeriana dioica L. subsp. sylvatica (Sol.) F.G. Mey., Ann. Missouri Bot. Gard. 38: 417 (1951).

Geography: North American: CAN.
Notes: The American Valeriana septentrionalis and the European V. dioica L., Sp. Pl.: 31 (1753), are morphologically distinct vicariants. The European plant is mainly temperate, whereas the American one reaches the Arctic.
