Geography: Amphi-Beringian & Cordilleran (S): RFE ALA.

Notes: Saussurea nuda is disjunct between the amphi-Beringian regions and the central Cordilleran ones, in the latter region with a subsp. densa (Hook.) G.W. Douglas or var. densa (Hook.) Hultén.

Keil (2006) included the name Saussurea alpina (L.) DC. in the synonymy of S. nuda. This must be an error. Firstly, Linnaeus' name Serratula alpina has priority 76 years before, and De Candolle's combination as Saussurea alpina 19 years before, Ledebour's Saussurea nuda. Secondly, these two names represent two morphologically rather different species.
