Notes: Murray and Elven: Löve and Löve (1976a) named the diploids Oligosporus groenlandicus, the tetraploids O. borealis. Morphological differences between plants at the two ploidy levels are not clear. We retain both ploidy levels within subsp. borealis. Diploids are known from Siberia east to Greenland, tetraploids from northern European Russia east to Alaska (see also Korobkov 1981; Murray and Kelso 1997).
