Southern Arcti Tundra: Frequent
Shrub Tundra: Frequent

Geography: Asian Beringian: RFE.

Notes: Elven and Petrovsky: Subspecies beringensis has not been effectively compared with the named North American races. It can therefore neither be confirmed nor synonymized yet. The plants assigned here differ from subsp. friesiana in rosettes more compact, leaves conspicuously narrower, capitulas smaller, and involucral bracts darker. However, the plants we have inspected are all female, indicating that subsp. friesiana may be the closest relation. They are distributed along the shores of the Bering Strait. There is not material available in LE to decide whether similar plants also occur in Beringian Alaska.

Murray and Elven: Plants identified by Yurtsev as subsp. beringensis from western Alaska (the Seward Peninsula) fall inside our concept of subsp. friesiana.
