Notes: Symphyotrichum lanceolatum reaches the Borderline Arctic at Severn River, 56N, on Hudson Bay (Scoggan 1979). There are four more southern races. Nesom (1994) and Brouillet et al. (2006) included Aster simplex in S. lanceolatum subsp. lanceolatum.
