Notes: Elven, Murray, and Parker: Scoggan (1979) stated (erroneously) that Symphyotrichum (Aster) yukonense is very close to Erigeron yukonensis Rydb. (= E. glabellus subsp. pubescens). Hultén (1968b) found the species to resemble Symphyotrichum pygmaeum, which Löve and Löve (1976a) found to resemble Eurybia sibirica. We disagree with all these views. We consider all three as clearly different species. Neither Hultén nor the Löves had probably seen much of S. yukonense or S. pygmaeum.
Hultén (1968a) mapped a locality in the southern Brooks Range. If this is the Bettles locality mentioned by Hultén (1968b), it is south of the Arctic. However, the species was found in several localities along the arctic parts of the Noatak River in 2003 (ALA, O).
