8301 Eritrichium Schrad. ex Gaudin
- Gaudin, Fl. Helv. 2: 4, 57 (1828).
Notes: Murray and Elven: W.A. Weber maintains that the correct (original) spelling is Eritrichum, not Eritrichium. It may be a question of which publication is the first valid one. The spelling Eritrichium was applied by Gaudin in 1828 when validating Schrader's name from Commentat. Soc. Regiae Sci. Gott. Recent. 4: 186 (1819), in obs.
Our treatment of Eritrichium is mainly based on Petrovsky (1980a) supplemented by unpublished molecular results from A. Tribsch. The five species that reach the Arctic are relatively undisputed. However, the races that Petrovsky accepted within E. aretioides, E. sericeum, and E. villosum are not. They are more or less sympatric or with strongly overlapping patterns and some of them may be insufficiently characterized.
