- Iltis, Sida 2: 134 (1965). - Gentiana nesophila Holm, Ottawa Naturalist 15: 111 (1901). Described from Anticosti Island in Quebec (Canada). - Gentianella detonsa subsp. nesophila (Holm) J.M. Gillett, Ann. Missouri Bot. Gard. 44: 216 (1957).
Geography: North American (NE): CAN.
Notes: Gentianopsis nesophila should perhaps be transferred to G. barbata. Hultén (1968b) and Hultén and Fries (1986) kept it apart from G. detonsa and considered it a related species. Scoggan (1979) reported differential characters in seed structure and surface and in shape of base of calyx, suggesting a much closer resemblance to G. raupii (i.e., possibly to G. barbata) than to G. detonsa s. str. As far as we know it has not been recombined as a subspecies of G. barbata.
