760203 Gentianella propinqua (Richardson) J.M. Gillett
- J.M. Gillett, Ann. Missouri Bot. Gard. 44: 236 (1957). - Gentiana propinqua Richardson in Franklin, Narr. Journey Polar Sea (Bot. App.): 734 (1823). Described from northern Canada. - Arctogentia propinqua (Richardson) Á. Löve & D. Löve, Taxon 31: 352 (1982). - Aloitis propinqua (Richardson) Á. Löve & D. Löve, Taxon 34: 164 (1985).
Geography: Amphi-Beringian (E) - North American.
Notes: The genus Arctogentia was erected by Löve and Löve (1982b) to include Gentianella aurea and G. propinqua. He later transferred these species to the more species-rich Aloitis Raf. 1836. Few authors have accepted these genera.
The two proposed races of Gentianella propinqua differ morphologically in a few, distinct characters but are largely sympatric: subsp. arctophila is nearly confined within the range of subsp. propinqua. This is not an obvious case of subspecies as geographical races.
