2n= (1) 46 (2x). - Europe (N), Siberia (N), Far East (N), Alaska, Canada, Greenland. - Numerous reports.
(2) 69 (3x). - Siberia (Putorana). - Krogulevich (1976a).
Not included: A report of 2n = 24 from northern Yakutia (Sokolovskaya and Strelkova 1960) is problematic as there is much support for the functional base number in the genus being x = 23.

Geography: Circumpolar: ICE RUS SIB RFE ALA CAN GRL.

Notes: Solstad and Elven: The assignment of Icelandic plants have been disputed, to subsp. grandiflora or subsp. norvegica. A re-inspection in 2010 showed much similarity with the Fennoscandian plants (i.e., subsp. norvegica) but we provisionally assign them as subsp. grandiflora as did Kristinsson (2008).
