741601-02 The Pyrola rotundifolia aggregate P. asarifolia, P. grandiflora

Geography: Circumboreal-polar.

Notes: This aggregate consists of three main parts: the European and western Siberian temperate-boreal Pyrola rotundifolia, the Asian and North American temperate-boreal to southern arctic P. asarifolia, and the mainly arctic and nearly circumpolar P. grandiflora. All three are polymorphic and may include two or more races. A critical circumpolar revision is needed. In a strict sense, P. rotundifolia L., Sp. Pl.: 396 (1753), has not been confirmed from the Arctic but has been suggested (Hultén and Fries 1986) to occur in near-arctic parts of northeastern Russia and in the northern Jenisei area in Siberia. Skvortsov (1980b) circumscribed this species widely for arctic Russia.
