- L., Sp. Pl.: 938 (1753). Described from Europe and Canada. Two type proposals. (1) Lectotype (LINN): Herb. Linn. 1053.6 (Grey-Wilson 1979: 4), based on a Canadian plant; (2) Lectotype (BM): Herb. Clifford: 428, Impatiens 1 (Reveal in Jarvis et al. 1993: 57), based on a European plant. The Canadian plant is currently considered Impatiens capensis Meerb. See discussion by Jarvis (2007: 588). We accept the European type as it contributes to nomenclatural stability.
(1) 20 (2x). - Europe, Far East, Canada. - Numerous reports.
(2) 40 (4x). - Europe (Poland). - Skalinska et al. (1959).
Geography: European - Asian - amphi-Pacific - North American (NW): (SIB) ALA.
Notes: Sekretareva (1999) reported Impatiens noli-tangere from (arctic) Taimyr. Baikov (1996c) rather reported it from Igarka in the northern Putorana (perhaps Borderline Arctic). One locality is reported from the Arctic in western Alaska (Cook and Roland 2002).
