- L., Sp. Pl.: 938 (1753). Described from Europe and Canada. Two type proposals. (1) Lectotype (LINN): Herb. Linn. 1053.6 (Grey-Wilson 1979: 4), based on a Canadian plant; (2) Lectotype (BM): Herb. Clifford: 428, Impatiens 1 (Reveal in Jarvis et al. 1993: 57), based on a European plant. The Canadian plant is currently considered Impatiens capensis Meerb. See discussion by Jarvis (2007: 588). We accept the European type as it contributes to nomenclatural stability.
