Geography: North American (Greenlandic): GRL.

Notes: Böcher (1966a) proposed the decaploid northern Greenland Braya intermedia to be a possible allopolyploid from B. humilis (in Greenland hexaploid, 2n = 42) and either B. thorild-wulffii (tetraploid, 2n = 28) or B. purpurascens (B. glabella s. lat., mainly octoploid, 2n = 56). Porsild and Cody (1980) synonymized B. intermedia with B. humilis subsp. arctica. Löve and Löve (1975a) accepted a species of Braya, not of Torularia where they included B. humilis etc. Braya intermedia was not mentioned by Rollins (1993) but Harris (1985) synonymized it with his B. humilis var. humilis. Warwick et al. (2003b) included a sample of B. intermedia in their study. It grouped with B. humilis s. lat. in all analyses. This might indicate that it either is a highly polyploid derivate within B. humilis or, if it is an allopolyploid, that at least its maternal parent was B. humilis. The reduced fertility reported may suggest the latter. It deviates morphologically from B. humilis s. lat. and might deserve rank.
