641032 Potentilla sp. "Quebec"
Distribution
Hudson Bay - Labrador: Rare
Shrub Tundra: Rare
Bordering boreal or alpine areas: Rare
Geography: North American (NE): CAN.
Notes: Cayouette and Elven: A major part, if not all, of what traditionally has been assigned to Potentilla vahliana from the northern (mainland) parts of Quebec combines characters of three species, i.e., strongly tussocky growth, leaf shape and large, showy flowers from P. subvahliana combined with petioles with both slightly verrucose straight hairs from P. arenosa s. lat. and floccose hairs from P. nivea. These characters suggest that all three species are involved: P. arenosa (probably subsp. chamissonis), P. nivea, and P. subvahliana. We assume that hybridization has taken place between P. vahliana (P. nivea x subvahliana) and P. arenosa subsp. chamissonis and produced populations.
