6410-13 The Potentilla group of genera
Notes: Besides Potentilla s. str., there are good morphological and molecular arguments for recognition of, e.g., Comarum, Dasiphora, and some non-arctic genera, (see, e.g., Kalkman 1968; Eriksson et al. 1998). If these segregates are kept within Potentilla, genera like Alchemilla, Fragaria (see Mabberley 2002), and Sibbaldia might have to be included (molecular data: Eriksson; Eriksen and Töpel unpubl.). Also Sibbaldiopsis has been recognized but probably belongs within Sibbaldia (see below).
Acceptance of Argentina is more disputed. In a recent phylogeny of the group (Eriksson et al. unpubl.), the Argentina group with Potentilla anserina and several mainly Chinese species is 'sister' to Potentilla s. str. and is debatable as a genus. Also J. Soják and B. Ertter (in comments) are in doubt about its acceptance. We retain the relevant species inside Potentilla as sect. Anserina as do Ertter et al. (2011).
