640703 Sanguisorba canadensis L.

GBIF

2n= 56 (8x). - Canada (E). - At least five reports. These should, according to Taylor and Mulligan (1968), be referred to the eastern North American subsp. canadensis.

Geography: Amphi-Pacific - North American.

Notes: Two races of Sanguisorba canadensis are generally accepted: the eastern North American subsp. canadensis and the amphi-Pacific subsp. latifolia. There are several morphological differences and they are reported as, respectivelly, octoploid and tetraploid. Transitions are not recorded. If the difference in ploidy levels is consistent (but see below) and consistently connected to morphology, their rank as possibly two species should be re-evaluated, respectivelly as S. canadensis (s. str.) and S. stipulata. The last-mentioned reaches the Arctic.
