Notes: Sekretareva (1999) recorded Filipendula ulmaria from the Borderline Arctic at the lower Ob River and Gladkova (PAF proposal) from the southwestern Taimyr. Vydrina (1988a) mapped the species to reach the Arctic at the Ob but not in Taimyr. See map in Yurtsev (1984e).
Gladkova (PAF proposal) accepted two races for the arctic parts: var. ulmaria from Iceland to Polar Ural and var. denudata in Kanin-Pechora, Polar Ural, and more questionable as arctic in Siberia (see above). Intermediates were stated to be "not rare". Kurtto et al. (2004): "However, the variant called subsp. denudata in Fl. Eur. is almost completely sympatric with the predominant variant ... and is also ecologically and morphologically rather ill-defined. Thus its recognition at the level of subspecies is certainly inappropriate, and it is perhaps best treated as a forma only."
