6403 Aruncus L.
- L., Opera Var.: 259 (1758).
Notes: The northern representatives of this genus are all rather similar and belong to one group of species or races, the Aruncus dioicus group, with very disjunct occurrence in mountain and coastal areas in southern and central Europe, the Caucasus, southern and central Asia, China, northeastern Asia, and in both northwestern and eastern North America. This phytogeographical pattern is typical of many groups and may be due to Pleistocene disruptance of more continuous Tertiary ranges. Such groups differ in degree of differentiation as do their treatments.
