Notes: Vicia sepium is vegetatively remaining but not seed-reproducing in Greenland (Pedersen 1972).
Chrtková-Zertová (1969) discussed the taxonomy of V. sepium. Hämet-Ahti (1970) accepted two northern races but the material from the Arctic has not been revised. Jalas (1991) assigned the plants in the Arctic in Norway to the mainly western European subsp. sepium. Hämet-Ahti (1970) mapped subsp. montana north to northeastern Norway and to Ponoj in the Murman area, in both areas south of the Arctic. Kuzeneva (1959) mapped no arctic occurrences in the Murman area. As long as the Russian material has not been revised we refrain from entering the races.
