630614-16 The Oxytropis adamsiana aggregate O. adamsiana, O. uschakovii, O. vassilczenkoi
Geography: Asian (N) - Asian Beringian.
Notes: Yurtsev: The species of this aggregate are red-flowered or rather purple, violet, or blue, hereafter as 'red/blue' with densely branched caudex, compact racemes with long bracts, relatively short calyx teeth, and ovate pods. They differ in a number of characters.
Elven and Murray: From a survey of some material (ALA) of all three species, and from some field experience with them, our view is that the Wrangel Island O. uschakovii probably merits rank as species, O. vassilczenkoi is polymorphic but seems to be morphologically close to O. adamsiana, perhaps an eastern extension of O. adamsiana, and its subsp. substepposa did not seem to differ much from O. vassilczenkoi s. str. except for being somewhat more hairy. We enter Yurtsev's proposals but with some doubts.
