2n= (2) 76 (4x). - Canada, U.S.A. - Several reports.
Not included: Reports of 2n = 57 (3x), Suda and Argus (1968, 1969a), probably belong to hybrids involving Salix planifolia and a diploid species. The high number of 2n = 152 (8x) is given by Skvortsov (PAF proposal), probably based on Löve (1954b, an untrustworthy paper) and included by Fedorov (1969). At that time Löve tried to identify the Icelandic plants as S. planifolia, to 'strengthen' the American element in the Icelandic flora. Icelandic S. phylicifolia has subsequently been counted with another number.
