Notes: The hybrid between Salix herbacea and S. nummularia occurs in northeastern Finland and Norway, into the Arctic and well west of the western boundary of "pure" S. nummularia in the Murman area. These plants differ appreciably from S. herbacea but probably only represent hybrid clones and should not be given special recognition. They suggest, however, that S. nummularia may have had a range farther westwards in previous times.

Argus (2007, 2010) accepted this species from one American occurrence on St. Paul Island in the non-arctic Pribilof Islands in Alaska.
