520105 Epilobium hornemannii Rchb.
- Rchb., Iconogr. Bot. Pl. Crit. 2: 73, t. 180 (1824). - Nomen novum for Epilobium nutans Hornem., Fl. Dan. 8, 24: 1, t. 1387 (1810), non F.W.Schmidt (1794). Described from Norway. An obvious type is the excellent Flora Danica illustration of E. nutans or the material it was based on, if extant.
Geography: Amphi-Atlantic - European & amphi-Pacific - Cordilleran.
Notes: Hultén (1968a and elsewhere) accepted, in addition to the widespread Epilobium hornemannii, two Pacific species: E. behringianum and E. sertulatum. Skvortsov (PAF proposal) synonymized E. behringianum with E. hornemannii. Hoch and Raven (1977) recombined E. behringianum as a subspecies of E. hornemannii. We follow that solution and also the synonymization of E. sertulatum with subsp. behringianum as proposed by Hoch (in comment), based on his examination of the types.
