Geography: Asian (NE) - amphi-Beringian: SIB RFE ALA CAN.

Notes: Petrovsky, Murray and Elven: The hexaploid Silene ostenfeldii differs morphologically both from the large-seeded tetraploids in the S. involucrata group and from the small-seeded hexaploid S. sorensenis, see Morton (2004, 2005c). Morton synonymized Melandrium dawsonii with S. ostenfeldii. The results of Popp et al. (2005) show the species to be an allohexaploid with one diploid genome from the S. uralensis lineage and two from the S. linnaeana lineage. This is the comparatively undisputed plant to which the name "taimyrense" has been misapplied in North America.
