420409-11 The Minuartia arctica aggregate M. arctica, M. obtusiloba, M. yukonensis

Geography: Asian (N/C) - amphi-Beringian - Cordilleran.

Notes: Elven and Murray: Several authors have been confused by Minuartia arctica and M. obtusiloba, as evident from the very different characters reported for these species in many treatments (e.g., Hultén 1968a, 1968b). Hultén annotated as M. obtusiloba only a very few collections from the Seward Peninsula in the Alaskan material in S (where Hultén's collections are deposited), whereas he annotated very numerous specimens of obvious M. obtusiloba as M. arctica. Both species are quite widespread in Alaska.

Löve and Löve (1975a) synonymized M. yukonensis with M. obtusiloba (as Lidia obtusiloba). Minuartia yukonensis is part of this aggregate but morphologically distinct; it differs more morphologically from M. obtusiloba than from M. arctica. North American authors currently consider these to be three species (Rabeler et al. 2005), as we do.
