2n=
30 (2x, x = 15). - Europe, Siberia (N), Canada. - At least five reports.
Not included: Reports of 2n = 22 from the British Isles (Blackburn and Morton 1957) and of 2n = 26 from northeastern Greenland, Chukotka, and western U.S.A. (Jørgensen et al. 1958; Zhukova 1967a; Löve et al. 1971). Vouchers behind these counts should be inspected before these numbers are accepted. The Greenland record of 2n = 26 (rather n = 13) may be due to technical problems (Jørgensen et al. 1958: 59). Löve and Löve (1975a) omitted reports of other numbers than 2n = 30, including their own of 2n = 26 from western U.S.A. (Löve et al. 1971). Confusion with glabrous M. rubella ("propinqua") is possible.
Geography: Circumpolar-alpine: ICE NOR RUS SIB RFE ALA CAN GRL.
