420206 Cerastium nigrescens (H.C. Watson) Edmondston ex H.C. Watson

Geography: European (NW) (or amphi-Atlantic (E)?).

Notes: Brysting and Elven: See references listed under the aggregate. Cerastium nigrescens differs distinctly in both morphology and molecular markers from the truly arctic plant, C. arcticum. These deserve rank as two species. Both are allopolyploids but with partly different progenitors. Genomes from C. alpinum partake in both species, whereas genomes from a central European Alpine low-ploid species group (the C. latifolium-uniflorum group) partake in the parentage of C. nigrescens but not in that of C. arcticum (Brysting et al. 2007b).
