14 (2x). - Far East (N), Alaska. - Numerous reports, mostly for R. graminifolius or its var. subspathulatus. See notes.
Geography: Amphi-Beringian: RFE.
Notes: Petrovsky and Elven: The sorting of chromosome counts by Löve and Löve (1975a) on Rumex beringensis (diploids) and R. krausei (triploids) is not fully supported by the Russian sources.
Murray and Elven: In the material (ALA, O) from southwestern Alaska south of the arctic parts and from the Chukchi Peninsula, R. beringensis differs from R. krausei in basal leaves more numerous, with blades linear to sublinear and not succulent, ochreas not very large or conspicuous, stems not distinctly red pigmented, inflorescence mostly constituting 50% or more of total stem length and richly branched, and flowers smaller. It mostly grows in much drier and more gravelly sites than R. krausei and also in more acidic sites. This is the most frequent plant of the group on the Asian side, there reaching much farther north than on the American side.
