- Gray, Nat. Arr. Brit. Pl. 2: 268 (1821). - Polygonum amphibium L., Sp. Pl.: 361 (1753). Lectotype (LINN): Europe. Herb. Linn. 510.7, left hand specimen, leg. Gmelin (Ekman and Knutsson 1994: 23).
Geography: Circumboreal.
Notes: Tzvelev: The differences between subsp. amphibia and subsp. laevimarginata are small and their status as taxa should be reconsidered.
Elven: We follow the characters and discussion of Stanford (1925) and Hultén (1944) and provisionally accept two subspecies but the variation should be studied further.
