GBIF

Geography: European (NE) - Asian (N/C): RUS SIB.

Notes: Murray and Elven: Our new combination validates Bistorta elliptica Kom., Fl. URSS 5: 677 (1936), in syn.

Tzvelev and Yurtsev: There are good reasons to believe that the name elliptica is available for this western species. Polygonum ellipticum was described from non-arctic parts of the Lena River area. In the arctic regions, the limit between the western and the eastern species runs in Taimyr but farther south P. elliptica occurs in the mountains and their surroundings all the way east to the Okhotsk Sea.

Murray and Elven: A look at the type would be nice. The northern Lena River material belongs to B. plumosa (field observations and collections 2004 by Elven and Solstad).
