Notes: Ball: This is the entity in this complex which is called Carex umbellata, I believe based on examination of the Willdenow and Schkuhr material. The other members of the complex are C. tonsa var. tonsa and var. rugosperma (Crins and Rettig 2002).
Elven: Hansen and Lægaard (1966) reported C. umbellata (as C. abdita) from two localities in southern Greenland. Even if the nearest known localities are found in southern Labrador, the Greenland sites are arctic, located well outside the boreal enclaves.
