Geography: Asian (C-NE).

Notes: The mainly southern Siberian and central Asian Papaver croceum has been described as polymorphic with several races, e.g., subsp. altaicum Serg., subsp. chinense (Regel) Kitag., and subsp. croceum, and with some related species, among them the most southern Asian species of all sect. Meconella: P. himalayum Cretz. Papaver croceum only occurs as an introduction in the Arctic but some possibly related northeastern Asian plants at least approach the arctic parts.
