- Tolm., Bot. Mater. Gerb. Bot. Inst. Komarova Akad. Nauk SSSR 20: 176 (1960). Holotype (LE!): Siberia: Yakutia, "in jugo montium Tuora-Siss, ad ripam dextram fluminis Lenae inferioris, in cucumine montis Sokujdach", 11. Aug. 1957, leg. B. Yurtsev and B. Norin.
Geography: Asian (NE): SIB.
Notes: Solstad and Elven: In the AFLP analysis, plants with the characters reported for P. leucotrichum, collected in dry limestone scree in the mountains close to its type locality, grouped within P. "lenaense" collected on the nearby sand dunes along the Lena river. The ploidy level of P. leucotrichum is not known. We suspect that P. leucotrichum may be conspecific with P. "lenaense". If so, the name P. leucotrichum has priority.
Petrovsky: Like the majority of the taxa of the Papaver pulvinatum group, P. leucotrichum is represented by local populations not in contact with P. pulvinatum s. str. This entity has developed in isolation in a very special environment mostly very dry calcareous scree in mountains and therefore is clearly different morphologically from typical P. pulvinatum.
