Notes: Papaver nivale has a large range in the Verkhoyansk and Kolyma mountains. Petrovsky (1999) stated it to be "very similar to P. pulvinatum" and also tetraploid as is the main body of that species. Elven and Solstad found large morphological variation in the material seen at several Russian herbaria, but there is a consistency that probably justifies recognition as a species. Material was not available for molecular study.
