Notes: Papaver angustifolium is provisionally accepted. It occupies a comparatively small range in northern Siberia centered on Taimyr, reaching from just west of the Jenisei River east to the Lena River. It is sympatric in the western parts with P. lapponicum subsp. jugoricum, subsp. orientale, and P. pulvinatum subsp. pulvinatum, and in the eastern parts with P. lenaense and P. variegatum.
Petrovsky: Papaver angustifolium has characters similar both to P. pulvinatum and to P. lapponicum. It differs from P. lapponicum s. lat. in shorter capsules and buds, similar in shape and pubescence to those of P. pulvinatum (i.e., capsule hairs ivory), in its distinctly convex stigmatic disc with decurrent rays, and more numerous stamens, larger flowers, and broader petals. In these characters it also resembles P. pulvinatum. However, in leaf shape, dissection, and shape and size of lobes it is more similar to P. lapponicum. As in P. pulvinatum, there is frequent occurrence of white-flowered plants, rare or nearly absent in P. lapponicum s. lat. Papaver angustifolium might be a western marginal race of P. pulvinatum but caryosystematic studies are needed to understand this taxon.
Elven and Solstad: We concur that P. angustifolium differs from the other named entities but find the differences from P. lapponicum more distinct than those from P. pulvinatum. It will be an 'oddball' whatever aggregate it is assigned to. We tentatively place it close to P. pulvinatum.
