Notes: Poa leptocoma and P. paucispicula (see below) have been considered subspecies, but Soreng (2007) stated that P. leptocoma is similar to other species of sect. Oreinos in its chloroplast haplotype, whereas it resembles P. paucispicula of sect. Homalopoa in its ITS sequence. Poa leptocoma is hexaploid and could be an allopolyploid combining genomes from sect. Oreinos and sect. Homalopoa. The range of P. leptocoma may be uncertain. Hultén (1968a) mapped it as fairly southern and non-arctic in northwestern North America. Soreng (2007) mapped it into the Arctic in western and northern Alaska and the northern Yukon Territory. Otherwise, it is known from Kamtchatka on the Asian side.
