342630 Poa laxa Haenke

Geography: Amphi-Atlantic - European & Cordilleran.

Notes: The Poa laxa group consists of four closely related allopatric taxa: P. laxa subsp. laxa (P. laxa s. str.) in southern and central European mountains; P. laxa subsp. flexuosa (Sm.) Hyl. (P. flexuosa Sm.) in western Fennoscandia, Scotland, and Iceland; P. laxa subsp. fernaldiana (Nannf.) Hyl. (P. fernaldiana Nannf.) in northeastern North America; and P. laxa subsp. banffiana Soreng in western (Cordilleran) North America (the last-mentioned according to Soreng 2007). Only subsp. flexuosa reaches the Arctic. The taxa are mainly at tetraploid and hexaploid levels (Nygren 1955). As transitional forms are unknown, treatment as four species is an alternative.
